Cnoc Ciùil translated from Gaelic means "hill of music"
The Cnoc Ciùil Ceilidh Band, which comprises all amateur players except our leader, started in 1998 and we now have a a maximum of 15 accordion players. Amongst our players we also have a flautist, keyboard player and drummer and guests include singers, bagpipe player, and fiddlers. Our Band leader is a professional accordion player and tutor, who is a Chartered Surveyor during the day, but also manages to find time to help us as well.
Band members practice together fortnightly and play out regularly, particularly during the summer, at Farmers Markets and Garden Open Days and ceilidhs. Several of our original members have now moved on to University, but join us when back in the area, and there are a number of schoolchildren within the group. The rest of us have been playing for varying numbers of years and just enjoy playing in a group. Above all, it is a fun, social time in these days of hectic life styles. We produced our first CD in 2004, and our second, a commission from the UK Branch of the Clan Chisholm Society, in 2006.

A ceilidh is traditionally an informal, lively party, full of mainly Scottish & Irish music, dance and song. A family night out, as all ages are catered for, and for those who don't want to dance, it's fun to watch others and to enjoy the music.Visitors to ceilidhs often participate with their own brand of entertainment, adding variety to the evening.
Last, but by no means least, there is always plenty of craick, food and drink (alcoholic or otherwise) for all concerned!
